Library Instruction: It's not too late!
Collaborate with subject-specific librarians on customized research tutorials, videos, how-to modules, and guides that can be added to your BlackBoard course. If you have already collaborated with a librarian in the past on tutorials or guides, please review those to ensure the content is ready (and let us know if it's not!). Planning ahead means we can meet your students' needs when and where they need us, and we look forward to working with you.
Now is the time to request in-person or synchronous/asynchronous library instruction for this semester (or, if you plan ahead, for next semester!). Library faculty are happy to visit your classes, collaborate on specific assignments, work with you to create research modules, and everything in between. Requesting early means securing us for your course schedule/syllabus to complement your research assignment deadlines.
Using AI for Research & Citation support: a GuideGenerative AI, such as ChatGPT, is a reality that we must address, as educators and as ethical users of information and available tools. On our student guide, Understanding Plagiarism and AI, we've provided Marshall University's Academic Dishonesty policy, acceptable and unacceptable applications of using AI for research support, tips on citing AI, the MU IT's guidance on protecting sensitive information, and links to suggested resources.
While the guide was created for students by faculty request, it can be used by anyone seeking a better understanding of such tools.

Faculty Innovation: Prof. Kacy Lovelace
Need help finding primary sources or primary source activities for your courses? Research and Student Success Librarian, Kacy Lovelace, has recently completed the Library of Congress’ Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Leadership Institute. She is in the process of becoming a TPS Certified Coach to further her primary source knowledge and abilities to help MU faculty enrich their curriculum with primary sources. Keep an eye out for announcements about her Masterclass in Spring 2024 on using primary sources to create a digital escape room.
Helpful Resources: New ETD guide
If you are writing a thesis or dissertation or serving on the committee for one, bookmark https://libguides.marshall.edu/etd/. The Graduate Studies Office and University Libraries worked together over the summer to gather all ETD-related websites into a single portal. ETD Guidelines and MU Online ETD training are currently being revised for the 2023-24 academic year, and these will also be linked here once updates are made.
New Event Series: Live with a LibrarianProf. Heather Lauer from the South Charleston campus has coordinated a new drop-in session for students, faculty, or staff who have questions about the library, such as research woes, citation trouble-shooting, and so much more.
