Promoting awareness, spotlighting history
HIV/AIDS has been a stigmatized illness since its discovery in 1981. The stigmatization of the illness led to government inaction which ended the lives of millions of men, women, children, and gender nonconforming folks. Though HIV/AIDS is now a survivable condition, a lot of the stigma remains and millions around the world are still dying from improper access to life-saving and expensive medications. AIDS Awareness week is part of the National AIDS Memorial’s efforts to bring the AIDS Memorial Quilt to communities across the United States, in order to raise greater awareness and education about HIV/AIDS, to remember those lost to the pandemic, and to continue fighting the stigma this illness has long faced.
Did you write or co-write a professional publication in 2023?
If so, we want to know about it! Not only will we add your book or article to our collection (if possible within your publisher agreements), but we want to highlight your achievements in an upcoming reception celebration!
This live online or in-person event will include a customized consultation with Heather Lauer, Assistant Professor and Library Partner to College of Health Professions and Division of Aviation (but anyone can attend!).
Can't make Heather's session? Schedule a consultation with any of our librarians for assistance with your own professional research, or to learn more about how University Library Faculty can serve your students:
