 HerdCon: March 29th - 30th 

You are cordially invited to HerdCon 2024, the annual pop culture convention of Marshall University. 

Hosted by Marshall University Libraries and free to attend, the two-day event will be held on March 29th and 30th at the Memorial Student Center.  Expand your perceptions and join us! 

Friday, March 29th

• Song Along, an evening of costumes, music and performance for all, will begin at 6:30 in the Memorial Student Center room BE5. Register for your spot here before 3/27/24: https://www.marshall.edu/herdcon/song-along/  
  • Vendor room open 10am-6pm

Saturday, March 30th

• Doors open at 10am.  Vendor Room open until 6pm, Gaming until ??
  • What to expect: Academic pop culture panels, video games, vendors, live bands, tabletop and strategy games, drones, and so much more.  
  • Special Guest Beau Smith presentation at 2:30 Saturday March 30th in BE5

 AIDS Awareness Week: Hosted by Marshall University Libraries

Promoting awareness, spotlighting history

HIV/AIDS has been a stigmatized illness since its discovery in 1981. The stigmatization of the illness led to government inaction which ended the lives of millions of men, women, children, and gender nonconforming folks. Though HIV/AIDS is now a survivable condition, a lot of the stigma remains and millions around the world are still dying from improper access to life-saving and expensive medications. AIDS Awareness week is part of the National AIDS Memorial’s efforts to bring the AIDS Memorial Quilt to communities across the United States, in order to raise greater awareness and education about HIV/AIDS, to remember those lost to the pandemic, and to continue fighting the stigma this illness has long faced. 

• AIDS Memorial Quilt exhibit reception: 5 p.m., March 11, Drinko Library Atrium (3rd floor). Refreshments will be provided, and it is free and open to all.
• “Common Threads” documentary screening: 7 p.m., March 11, Drinko Library 349 (3rd floor). This film is about the making of the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
  • A second screening of the film will take place at 5pm in Room 402 of the library on March 14.
• “AIDS in the Tri-State: Then and Now” panel discussion: 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., March 13 in Drinko Library 349 (3rd floor). With panelists Dr. Len Deutsch, Timothy Stanley, and Jan Rader.

If so, we want to know about it! Not only will we add your book or article to our collection (if possible within your publisher agreements), but we want to highlight your achievements in an upcoming reception celebration!
