Using Citation Management Software

At Marshall University, you have access to a few citation management software options:

  • RefWorks (Available for free to MU students)
  • EasyBib (Available for free to anyone)
  • Zotero  (Available for free to anyone)
  • EndNote (Free MU access ends Summer 2025)

What does Citation Management Software do?

Specific features vary by product, but the bottom line is they help you keep track of your citations in one place, can assist you in importing citations into your written papers, and can store PDFs. Some features of current products include:

  • Keep all your references and reference-related materials in a searchable personal library.
  • Synchronize your references between up to three of your personal computers, an online library, and your iPad or iPhone. 

  • Set up a library sharing team and effortlessly collaborate with up to 100 co-authors and colleagues.

  • Cite your references in word processing documents to create formatted citations and bibliographies or independent reference lists.
