Beta site: Same content, new look! (Fall 2025)

Decorative Header: Published ETDs (Phase 4)

Congratulations! You're now a published author!

When the ETD Librarian approves your manuscript during the ETD Policy Check (Stage 3), you'll have a published manuscript. Bound, print copies of theses and dissertations are ordered through ProQuest. You can order copies when you submit your thesis or dissertation.

Note to Current Students Working on their ETD

Please refer to the current ETD Guidelines on the "Downloads, Links, Templates, Guides" tab for current ETD formatting requirements, rather than a thesis or dissertation you find online. Older ETDs may have been published using older style guides and different Marshall guidelines, policies, etc. that no longer apply.

Viewing Electronic (online) Copies

Unless a thesis or dissertation is under embargo, it is available to read and download from all of the following locations.

No login required.

All Marshall University theses and dissertations are published in MDS as "open access" once any embargoes have expired. This means they can be searched, downloaded, and read free of charge by anyone worldwide both from the MDS website and through the Digital Commons Network

Marshall University Login Required

Marshall University theses and dissertations are also available through the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database, which is considered to be the most comprehensive collection of theses and dissertations worldwide, and many major academic libraries hold a subscription to this database. Access to most ETDs in this database is limited to those with login credentials from a subscribing library unless a student author has paid ProQuest to make their ETD available "open access."

Marshall University Login Required

This link goes to a version of ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global filtered to search only Marshall University ETDs. Login credentials from Marshall University or a subscribing library are required for access unless a student author has paid ProQuest to make their ETD available "open access."

Ordering Print Copies

Bound, print copies of theses and dissertations are purchased through ProQuest. You can order copies when you submit your thesis or dissertation.

If you have already graduated and would like to purchase a print copy, see the instructions from ProQuest at this support page: https://support.proquest.com/s/article/Can-I-purchase-copies-of-my-dissertation-or-thesis?language=en_US&sfdcIFrameOrigin=null.

Questions About Your Published Thesis or Dissertation?

Many questions pertaining to published theses and dissertations (i.e., embargoes, changes post-publication, etc.) are answered in the current ETD Guidelines, downloadable from the "Templates, Guides, Downloads & Links" tab of this website.

If you have a question not answered there, see the "Contacts and FAQ" tab and reach out.
