Library Instruction: Home

Use this guide for all things related to library instruction.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION OPTIONS

Library instruction will be available virtually this semester. We will not able to visit the classes in person but are available in a variety of formats for your convenience. Click here to request instruction.

Available instruction formats

  • 100% - synchronous (live): TEAMS or similar program, during a class period. This allows for two-way video-conferencing, screen/app sharing, and chat messages.
  • 50/50 - a/synchronous (portions happening live, portions happening at student’s leisure): Pre-recorded series of videos with requested content are posted to Blackboard that students can watch at their leisure before the class period. Then, during the class meeting, the librarian is available via Blackboard Collaborate to answer questions. Optional: faculty member creates a discussion thread so students can submit questions beforehand.
  • 100% - asynchronous (not live): Pre-recorded series of videos with requested content are posted and the students submit questions to a discussion board that is answered by the librarian over a designated period. Credo Information Literacy modules, which are pre-made library instructional objects, including videos, assessments, and interactive content, are embedded in the course shell. To learn more, visit https://libguides.marshall.edu/ilcm-faculty using the password MUfaculty when prompted. To request access to view the materials and/or to embed them in a course, complete the form that is in the middle of that page.

LIBRARY PARTNERS

List of Library Partners

Library Partners information

Marshall University Libraries’ Partners Program was created to establish formal, ongoing relationships between the Library and Marshall University colleges, programs, and departments. The goal of the program is to foster dialogue between the Library and academic colleges and programs it supports. This dialogue will enhance the Library’s understanding of user needs, promote the integration of information literacy into the curricula, and support collection development. The program matches a library faculty member and support team with a college or program, and subsequently the departments within. See the list of Library Partners by College/Program.

Welcome! Here are some ways librarians can help!

Embedded librarians

Experienced research and instruction services specialists (AKA Librarians) are available for your information literacy needs. Embedded sessions are carefully and thoughtfully planned in conjunction with the course professor so that librarians can design instruction that supports critical thinking, addresses course assignments, and fosters information literacy in students.  Please plan ahead for your instruction needs because our calendars fill up quickly.

How to use the ILCM

Multimedia materials can be assigned to students for a flipped classroom environment, shown as a part of face-to-face instruction, be assigned for homework, or added to online classes.  The ILCM also includes discussion notes for each section that outline learning objectives, related ACRL standards, section multimedia, discussion topics, activities, and suggested readings.

To learn more, visit https://libguides.marshall.edu/ilcm-faculty using the password MUfaculty when prompted. To request access to view the materials and/or to embed them in a course, complete the form that is in the middle of that page.

Please contact Eryn Roles (roles1@marshall.edu), Sarah Mollette (sarah.mollette@marshall.edu), or Gillian Sochor (sochor@marshall.edu) for information about using the ILCM in your class using Blackboard (best) or with questions about any of the information you see in this guide.
